Mark Fuqua

Therapist, LMSW

Mark Fuqua is a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW). He received his Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from Alabama A&M University with a concentration in Clinical Mental Health. Holding masters degrees in Theology (M.Div. and Th.M) and a bachelor’s degree in History (B.A.), he brings the ability to be not only analytical but also very practical in applying knowledge and theory to every day practice and life. Coming from an Existential framework, Mark has experience in using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Existential Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Motivational Interviewing (MI), Reality Therapy, the Matrix Model for Substance Abuse, and he is trained to do Eye Movement and Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) using a Somatic/Attachment focus.

With a commitment to Trauma-Informed Care, he has provided mental health therapies to individuals and facilitated both therapeutic and psycho-educational groups. The areas in which he has the most experience are Grief and Loss, Life Transitions, Substance Use, Anger Management, and LGBTQ+ related issues (particularly “coming out” issues and issues with Gender Dysphoria and transition). He is passionate about helping others who suffer from mental health issues and how they can benefit from an existential approach that believes therapy should help clients in their struggle to answer the biggest questions in life. In his free time, Mark enjoys reading, cooking, research, yardwork, and has enjoyed volunteering for the Nashville Adult Literacy Council.
